Nice words from a fan of the river: "This river has a soul that feeds the region, a mystery and vibe that vibrates and keeps the land around it fed, - an amazing resource in our back yard.
Come on out to this event. The Politicians of West Quebec are talking about polluting a Regional Resource, can't believe these t-rds are thinking about polluting our amazing river -- its in danger, help where you can."
From Germany July 2012I know lots of people here in Berlin & across the EU that have visited or swam in the Gatineau River because I personally brought them their to show them the jewel of the Ottawa Capital Region & I am sure, with Germans being militantly against environmental destruction, especially of the willful kind, of areas that are for the most part unspoiled, that many may ask who they can write to, from Germany, to share both their stories on the Gatineau River & their equal disdain for ANY such plans! At the very least, I would like to write a letter from Germany, to share why I am disgusted at the very notion of this idea & the usual political inaction & spinelessness of those with the power to effect change ... Positive change, for us all! I'd be thrilled if you could direct to whom this letter would be most effective to being sent to & I'll be listening for that shout out across the pond! All the very best from Berlin ... The home of OTHER supporters of the same cause!
LONG AWAITED SEPTIC SLUDGE LAGOON ANNOUNCEMENT / DECISION EXPECTED: NOT at Next MRC Meeting Thursday September 20, 7pm, 216 Old Chelsea Road, Chelsea, QC
BUT at a council of mayor's meeting on September 10,2012 - this information has been gleaned verbally and from the incumbent Liberal MNA but is not yet posted on the MRC website.
Update June 21, 2012 - somewhat unexpectedly - the MRC issued a press release stating they will NOT make a decision about the septic sludge lagoons at tonight's meeting and are postponing a decision until the Thursday August 16, 2012 MRC Meeting (Note Aug 18 - decision was postponed again..)CLICK: French press release | CLICK English Press Release
Kazabazua "MODEL" septic sludge treatment plant (upon which current MRC plans are based) is already over capacity in less than 8 years and 'humanure/bio solids'(aka dried septic sludge) are now being stored uncovered and directly on the ground. With mandatory pumping being forced on many municipalities, expect the volumes of septic sludge and the subsequent 'treated effluent' discharge AND the quantities of 'humanure/biosolids' to increase.
NEW THREAT: the municipality of LaPeche is asking the MRC des Collines to allow commercial and industrial processes at SEVERAL gravel pits in LaPeche (including site A and a pit close to Site B). By petitioning the CPTAQ (Agricultural Protection Commission) for expanded usage BEFORE announcing the site of the future regional septic sludge treatment lagoons -- while having stated many times that 'no decision will be made before June' (ed. now this decision has been postponed again - but the PLAN OF RECORD is still open-air septic sludge lagoons north of Wakefield) -- the public is surely being lured into a false sense of calm.
